Partial sales tax check for June down 11.8% from last year
Comptroller says figure is still in line with predictions for 2009
Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman said today that the County’s latest sales tax distribution check was $32.8 million covering the month of June 2009, down 11.8% from last year’s check from the same time period, which translates into almost $4.4 million less in revenue in the County’s coffers. Since the start of 2009, the sales tax free fall has translated into a $42.6 million decrease, or 9.9% year to date.
"This latest sales tax check is still in line with the 4.9% decline that we have been predicting for 2009,” Weitzman said. “The second quarter payment scheduled for July 10 may give us a better indication of what direction sales tax is headed.”
Sales tax accounts for 40% of the County’s budget.
