Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi hosted Nassau County: A Suburb in Crisis, on Tuesday, March 19th, 2002. The roundtable seminar, led by Dr. Arthur R. Miller, Professor of Law at Harvard University, aired live on WLIW21, New York Public Television at 8 PM.

The distinguished panel included Newsday editorial page editor James Klurfeld; Dr. Irwin Kellner, the chief economist for CBS MarketWatch; Hon. Patrick Halpin, former Suffolk County Executive; Hon. John Kiernan, former North Hempstead Supervisor; Lisa Tyson, Assoc. Director of the Long Island Progressive Coalition; Fred Brewington, Civil Rights Attorney; Bruce Bent, former Republican candidate for Nassau County Executive; Jack O'Connell, the CEO/President of the Long Island Health and Welfare Council; Phoebe Goodman, Director of the Nassau Citizens Budget Committee; Dave Mejias, attorney and former Democratic candidate for Nassau County Legislature; Robert McMillian, attorney and former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate; Mel Weiss, attorney; and Dr. Pearl Kamer, representing the Long Island Association.
Some of the questions that were addressed during this historic evening: How did one of the nation's wealthiest counties find itself on the brink of bankruptcy? How do we turn aside the tide of fiscal failure and solve the complex problems plaguing Nassau County?
The host, Professor Miller, has been a moderator on the critically acclaimed Fred Friendly Seminars. He recently moderated several PBS programs including, The Constitution: That Delicate Balance; Managing Our Miracles: Health Care in America, and The Sovereign Self. He is also nationally known for his scholarly work on court procedure, copyright law, and the right to privacy.
