Suozzi Announces RFP for Buildings Consolidation Plan
Mineola, N.Y. - Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi announced today a formal Request for Proposals ("RFP") from real estate consulting firms to assist the County in developing a strategic real estate plan to consolidate County buildings.
"When I took office on January 1st one of my top priorities was to commission a top to bottom review of all the County's real estate holdings," said County Executive Suozzi. "What we found was a mess of crumbling buildings, underutilized space, and poor planning."
"We have developed a partial inventory of what we own. We will finalize it, identify the properties that we will keep to house the County's operations and determine which surplus property to sell."
The Building Consolidation Plan will organize County government facilities into several "campuses," designed to house government departments together that perform related functions. "A perfect example of what is wrong with our current real estate footprint is that County police function (exclusive of the precincts) is now located in eleven different sites including our Police Headquarters," said County Executive Suozzi. "We want to consolidate this area, along with the rest of County government, to increase efficiency and minimize waste."
The selected consultant will provide a marketplace analysis of all County holdings, make recommendations regarding the disposition of surplus property as well as determine the ability of the existing facilities to satisfy the County's operational and technological needs both now and in the future.
"The firm will be selected based on a thorough analysis of its ability to provide the County with the highest quality real estate services," said the County Executive. "We will evaluate each firm based on their experience with every aspect including previous municipal projects and historic preservation."
Proposals are due back to the County by May 30, 2002 at 4:45 PM.
