Suozzi Commends Nassau County Scouts

On Friday June 28th, Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi held a press conference to meet with and honor members of the Nassau County Council of Boy Scouts who have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and members of the Nassau County Council of Girls Scouts who have received the Gold Award.

"It is such a pleasure to see the young people of Nassau County taking part in organizations that serve the community, such as the Boy and Girl Scouts," said Suozzi. "The recognition and honor that these young people have received is incomparable to the services they have performed for our community." The County Executive took the opportunity to speak about Team Nassau, community service, and the importance of scouting.

Kelly Bit, a Gold Award recipient, spoke of her unconventional experience with the girl scouts. "I have found through my experience as a lone-scout, that embracing individuality helps when searching for your passions," said Bit. "All the pins and patches I have earned as a Girl Scout…they did finally pave the way to the Gold Award."

Arthur Rollin, the chosen speaker for the Eagle Award recipients, spoke of his service project of recreating and constructing an old police booth in Baldwin. "When I saw the end result of my project, and realized the lasting imprint that it would leave on the community, I knew that my time and dedication was well worth it," said Rollin.

The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have shown their dedication and appreciation for the community through their projects and their years of commitment to scouting.

"I commend these young men and women on their efforts, and am confident that this is only the first of many successes that they will each encounter throughout their lives," said Suozzi.
