"The residents of Nassau County will be well served by Harvey Levinson as he acts as their independent watchdog, ensuring that their tax reassessments are both fair and accurate," said County Executive Suozzi. "His impressive record in the District Attorney's Office proves that he is a valuable addition to the Administration."
A court ordered mandate issued in 2000 that requires the County to reassess all property has been the subject of tremendous debate. Mr. Levinson's duties will include investigating concerns regarding vacant parcels, waterfront and other unique properties, as well as other complaints made by residents concerned about their recent reassessments. The County Executive has required that Mr. Levinson provide him with a report before the year's end.
In addition, the County Executive invites all Nassau County residents to attend two public meetings on the property tax assessment to be hosted by Mr. Levinson. Both meetings are set for Sunday, December 1st and will be conducted in the legislative chamber on the 5th Floor of the County Executive Building at 1 West Street in Mineola. The meetings will give residents the opportunity to voice their opinions concerning the assessment process and will allow Mr. Levinson to answer questions about reassessments.
The first meeting will be held from 12 Noon to 2:30 and will address the assessment of class 1 properties, which include single-family homes and condominium townhouses and apartments that are no more than 3 stories. The second meeting will be held from 2:30 PM to 5:00 and will address the assessment of commercial property, co-operatives and all condominiums over three stories (class 2,3, and 4 properties.)
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Levinson was the Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office and was responsible for the highly acclaimed District Attorney's Rising Star-Community Crime Prevention Program. He is also the architect of the no-plea bargaining policy in the District Attorney's Office, which has saved Nassau County taxpayers millions.
Constituents may contact Mr. Levinson by calling the County Executive's office at (516) 571-3131 or by emailing the County Executive
