Suozzi Announces First 'Nassau County Restaurant Week'

Mineola, NY - Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi today announced the first “Nassau County Restaurant Week,” from Aug. 21-25, 2006. Nassau County Restaurant Week will showcase the culinary artistry of more than 65 restaurants in the County.

Nassau County, along with the Long Island Chapter of the New York State Restaurant Association and the Long Island Press, coordinated the weeklong event to promote the County’s fine dining establishments. Participating restaurants will offer prix-fixe menus for both lunch and dinner. The lunch menu prices will range from $7.06 to $12.06 and the dinner menus will range from $15.06 to $20.06. Every customer who chooses the specially created prix-fixe menu will receive a full three-course meal.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Island Harvest, a non-profit organization that works to end hunger and reduce food waste on Long Island. Hundreds of times each week, Island Harvest picks up food from commercial food establishments that would ordinarily be thrown out. Many restaurants in Nassau County donate their excess food to Island Harvest to feed tens of thousands of people in need on Long Island.

“Nassau County has some of the top restaurants and top chefs in the metropolitan area,” said Suozzi. “This is an excellent opportunity for both residents and restaurants to take advantage of this showcase event. Patrons will be able to sample some of the best cuisine in New York at rock bottom prices.”

Nassau County Restaurant Week 2006 will boost the local economy and draw attention to Nassau’s diverse, world class restaurants, and also help those who are less fortunate.

Nassau County is working with the New York State Restaurant Association and the Executive Director of the Long Island Chapter, Claudia Bruno, on this endeavor. “Nassau County Restaurant Week will be extremely beneficial to the restaurant community, boosting patronage in the ordinarily slow weeks at the end of the summer,” Bruno said. Since 1935, the New York State Restaurant Association has served as the voice of the food service industry in New York and represents nearly 7,000 restaurants across the state.

This event is made possible by the support of its sponsors, including: Charmer Industries, the charitable sponsor, Manhattan Beer Distributors, Stella Artois, Restaurant Depot, Budweiser, The Morey Organization, DiCarlo Food Service, Miller Light, Long Island’s KJOY 98.3, and WHLI 1100. All of the participating restaurants will have identical signage on their windows and doors, designating them as participants.
