Mangano Wins Top State Efficiency Award

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was recognized for his cost cutting measures by a New York State rewards program that recognizes municipalities for cutting operating expenses to hold down taxes. Nassau County was selected as one of 13 local government agencies that will share in the $12 million prize. Nassau will receive $5 million alone for its consolidation and cost saving measures that have protected Nassau County taxpayers.

"I commend Governor Cuomo for recognizing my administration’s efforts to reduce the size of government by eliminating duplicative services," said County Executive Mangano.

“The Governor’s $5 million award is further recognition of the extraordinary cost-savings achieved by the County which led to the year-end budget surplus without a property tax increase,” Comptroller George Maragos said.

County Executive Mangano has cut over $290 million is wasteful spending, frozen property taxes for three straight years in a row and created and retained over 19,000 private sector jobs here in Nassau. In addition, to protecting Nassau tax dollars, County Executive Mangano has worked to improve County parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, roadways and preserves. Furthermore, County Executive Mangano has assigned more police officers to patrol and decreased crime by 10% from just a few years ago.
