Northport Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Nephew

Abodalo sexually abused boy from age 5 to 11

MINEOLA, NY - Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that a Northport man has been convicted by a jury of sexually assaulting his nephew multiple times starting when the boy was as young as five years old. The victim is now 19 years old.

The jury found Jalal Abodalo, 48, guilty of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, two counts Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and two counts of Incest. He faces up to 25 years in prison at his September 24 sentencing.

Rice said that starting in December 1994, Abodalo began sexually abusing his then-five-year-old nephew when the boy’s family would visit his Baldwin home from their Pennsylvania residence. Abodalo is believed to have assaulted his nephew approximately 20 times during a more than six-year period ending in 2001. The abuse was discovered when the victim went to the police in June 2008.

Abodalo was arrested on October 10, 2008 upon his return to the U.S. from a business trip in Dubai.

“There isn’t a single thing I can do in this job that’s more important to me than protecting our community’s children,” Rice said. “The bravery of this young man has taken a monster off our streets and ensured that this predator will never harm an innocent child again.”

Handling the case for the DA’s office is Assistant District Attorney Robert Cavallo of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau. The defendant is represented by Dennis Lemke, Esq.
