DA Announces Auction of 60 Seized Vehicles
Luxury sedans and SUVs available for purchase; proceeds fund law enforcement
MINEOLA – Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced today that 60 vehicles that were seized by the Nassau County Police Department will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Wednesday, October 28 at the Police Impound Yard in Bethpage.
The vehicles were seized from offenders who committed crimes ranging from driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, robbery, and drug charges.
The auction includes:
- A 2004 Nissan 350Z, 2004 Infiniti, and 2001 BMW seized from three defendants convicted of racing on the Long Island Expressway, speeding, and reckless endangerment.
- 1999 Ford Windstar seized from a defendant convicted of robbery after stealing ten packs of cigarettes from a 7-11.
- A 1990 Buick whose owner was convicted of attempting to sell quantities of cocaine, marijuana, Vicodin, and Percocet.
Rice said that the auction is being run by Buffalo-based Auctions International. Proceeds from the auction will go to the DA’s Forfeiture Fund. That money is put back into the community through crime-reduction programs and investigations.
“We aggressively investigate and prosecute crime, and when it’s all over, we go after the criminals’ proceeds,” Rice said. “We make sure crime doesn’t pay, and that the criminals are the people picking up the tab.”
