Communicable Disease Control (516) 227-9496 This division protects the public from the spread of communicable diseases through the surveillance and investigation of contagious diseases.

Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedule The major childhood diseases are dangerous and can be crippling or even deadly. They can be prevented with a complete series of immunizations given at the earliest recommended age.

Childhood Lead Poison Prevention Program (516) 227-9665 This program provides case management and education for all children with lead poisoning. It provides education to the public and professionals about childhood lead poison prevention and maintains a registry of all Nassau County children tested for lead poisoning. By law, all children must be tested for lead poisoning at ages one and two years. www.epa.gov/lead

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (516) 227-9694 This bureau conducts programs for students and adults on chronic disease prevention and health promotion. It supports community health fairs and provides literature on health and wellness topics to schools, community agencies and the public.

Immunization Action Plan (516) 227-9416 This program provides professional and public education about childhood immunizations. Vaccinations can prevent twelve serious diseases.

Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (516) 227-9419 This program provides case management services for pregnant and parenting women who have hepatitis B infection in order to prevent its spread to their newborn infants.

Tobacco Cessation Program (516) 227-9424 The New York State Smokers' Quitline offers nicotine replacement therapy (“the patch”) to medically eligible residents who wish to quit smoking. Interested residents should call the Quitline at 1-866-697-8487 or visit their website at www.nysmokefree.com.

Nassau County Department of Health also offers free stop-smoking classes to residents. The Department’s tobacco cessation specialists conduct these programs at various locations throughout the County. For more information, please call 516- 227-9424 weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tuberculosis (TB) Control Bureau (516) 227-9664 This bureau conducts investigation and case management for all reported cases of tuberculosis and identifies and evaluates contacts to cases of TB. It also provides directly observed therapy (DOT) for all patients receiving medication for TB disease in order to help them complete their full course of treatment.
