Exciting Community Service/Job Opportunities for Teens

The Nassau County Department of Health is looking for teens, aged 16 or 17, to help with tobacco sales compliance inspections (stings), at various tobacco retail establishments throughout Nassau County. The sale of cigarettes or other tobacco products to people less than 18 years of age is a violation of New York State Law.

Any young adult who is a resident of Nassau County and is 16 or 17 years old may participate in the program. Most teens work one or two days a month for 3-4 hours a day. Compliance checks are not done in the teens' own neighborhoods and parental permission is required.

The young adults in the program receive letters of commendation and may use the program to fulfill community service requirements at their schools. Guidance counselors, college admissions review committees and future employers view this type of community service very favorably.

Part-time employment is also available at $ 8.00 per hour.

For details on the program, contact the Nassau County Department of Health at (516) 571-3232 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. weekdays.
