Nassau County Department of Health's Flu Program Nationally Recognized
At the prestigious National Immunization Conference held recently in Washington DC, the Nassau County Department of Health provided presentations dealing with the influenza vaccine crisis of 2004. The titles of the presentations were:
Influenza Vaccine Distribution in a Time of Crisis: The Response of a Large Suburban Local Health Unit
Mass Influenza Vaccination Clinic in a Time of Shortage
Utilization of a Physician Practice Survey to Distribute Influenza Vaccine to High Priority Patients
Nassau County held the largest flu vaccine clinic ever provided in New York State, and perhaps the nation. Over a two-day period, the Nassau County Department of Health, with other agencies and volunteers, successfully immunized over 7,600 seniors. The department also distributed an additional 66,500 doses directly to physicians and Nassau County clinics, while keeping within the strict CDC guidelines created to address the vaccine shortage crisis.
Over 1,600 health professionals from all 50 states as well as international representatives attended this annual conference sponsored by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.) These presentations were well received by the attendees.
