Beach Closings

Due to heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health has closed the following 18 beaches as a precautionary measure, effective today, August 1, 2009.

16 Nassau County North Shore Beaches*

and

On the South Shore in Nassau County:

Hewlett Point Beach

Island Park Beach

Storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacteria levels that are used to assess bathing water quality.

* North Shore Beaches:

Bar Beach

Centre Island Bay

Centre Island Sound

Creek Club

Laurel Hollow

Lattingtown Beach

Morgan Sound

Piping Rock Beach Club

Prybil Beach

Ransom Beach

Roosevelt Beach

Sea Cliff Village Beach

Soundside Beach

Stehli Beach

Tappen Beach

West Harbor Beach

In addition, Crescent Beach in the City of Glen Cove and Philip Healey Beach in Massapequa remain closed due to elevated bacteria.
