Public Health Honored
In recognition of “Public Health Thank You Day” (November 19th) Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi thanked the staff of the Nassau County Department of Health for their continuing efforts and often silent guardianship and protection of the public’s health.
“Every day, these are the public health professionals who safeguard our lives and our health by helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, safeguard our water, inspect our restaurants and help our children grow healthy and strong,” Mr. Suozzi said. “We all owe a debt of gratitude to these health professionals who devote their lives to making it possible for us to live in a safer, healthier world.”
Acting Health Commissioner Dr. Abby Greenberg also recognized the County Executive for his continuing support of public health and for his initiative, “Healthy Nassau,” Mr. Suozzi’s campaign to make Nassau the healthiest county in the nation.
“The County Executive has initiated new activities and has enhanced existing programs which will improve the health of all residents,” Dr. Greenberg said. “His initiatives include supporting a ban on trans fats, developing a new two-mile Fitness Trail in Eisenhower Park and offering a local farmers market which gave residents easy access to local fresh fruits and vegetables this past summer.”
