Uniondale, NY— Nassau County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Maria Torroella Carney and the Nassau County Child Fatality Review Team (NCCFRT) are releasing their first Independent Report targeting safe sleeping protocols for infants. The team is providing infant safe sleep recommendations following the committee’s review of ten (10) infant deaths in Nassau County. Nassau County data revealed that from 2007-2009 there were thirteen (13) infant deaths attributed to SIDS or suffocation. The NCCFRT reviewed ten of these cases and found that in all ten cases, a dangerous sleep situation could not be eliminated as a factor in the death.
