Legislator Corbin Announces Franklin Avenue Ground Breaking
Nassau County Legislator Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) joined Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall, Sr. and Deputy Mayor Henry Conyers at the African American Museum to announce the beginning of construction of Franklin Avenue in downtown Hempstead Village.
“This is a beautiful thing that our County Executive is investing in our community, a place that has been neglected for so long,” said Legislator Corbin. “It’s going to be a pleasure to travel down Franklin Avenue.”
The announcement of the 3 million dollar investment initiative is the culmination of community meetings and on-site tours held in the Village of Hempstead. The funds will be covered by Nassau County’s Capital Budget with a projected completion of the fall of 2009.
Construction will include eight blocks starting at Bedell Street and ending at Peninsula Boulevard and include the construction of decorative street lights, benches, and trash cans. Additionally, it will include: underground conduit and light pole foundations; repairing/replacing the concrete curb; removal of the existing sidewalk; installation of new sidewalk and brick pavers; and the planting of 85 new trees.
