Legislator Ciotti Honors Local Teen
Nassau County Legislator John J. Ciotti recently had the honor of meeting a very talented young man from Elmont Memorial High School. Fourteen year old Guerlain E. Ulysse is a 9th grader who is making headlines in Elmont and across the internet. Guerlain is the founder, owner and publisher of “Teenage Lines Magazine,” a magazine written for teens, by teens.
Guerlain’s magazine addresses topics that are on all teens’ minds. From fun to controversial, Teenage Lines Magazine covers issues from sports and fashion tips to money matters and relationships. The magazine also displays imaginative artwork and poetry created by local teens, as well as advertising for local businesses.
The first issue is scheduled to premiere this spring/summer and will be published on a quarterly basis. The magazine will be distributed to teen centers in local communities. Teenage Lines Magazine will also be available online and will feature an interactive message board for teens to state their opinions on hot topics or introduce new issues. Guerlain is currently working on the magazine’s brand image, recruiting teen writers and seeking local advertisers.
Guerlain will also showcase his writing skills in the magazine by scripting articles addressing his favorite topics and interviewing interesting people. When asked what celebrity he would most like to interview, Guerlain stated, “If I could interview any celebrity, it would be a phenomenal legend and entrepreneur like Michael Jordan or Jay-Z. They have made a real difference in our world, and are role models to many teens around the world. They have made a huge impact in our societies and are admired by many today.”
In addition to his entrepreneurial talents, Guerlain is a model student at school. He is currently enrolled in Elmont High School’s Science Research Program, involved in the school’s Model United Nations Program, and a member of the Talented and Gifted Program. He has also been nominated to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. After high school Guerlain hopes to attend Johns Hopkins University and become a gastro-intestinal surgeon.
“Guerlain demonstrates the talent, tenacity and work ethic of the students here in Elmont. He is an entrepreneur and a role model for all teens, and his possibilities are limitless. I am proud of his accomplishments and want him to know that the community supports his endeavors,” said Legislator Ciotti.
