Biography:
John J. Ciotti (R-C), was elected on November 7, 1995, to the first session of the Nassau County Legislature as the representative of the 3rd Legislative District. He has since been re-elected in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007. The 3rd Legislative District includes Elmont, Franklin Square, North Valley Stream, Bellerose Terrace, South Floral Park, and portions of Valley Stream.
Mr. Ciotti is a local practicing attorney. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1980. He specializes in civil litigation, commercial law, and domestic relations.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Ciotti has been employed in the tax department of a Big "8" accounting firm. He further served as legal counsel to the Hempstead Town Sanitation District No. 6. He also served as a hearing officer hearing labor grievances.
Mr. Ciotti also served as both Chairman and Treasurer of the Western Nassau Water Authority. The authority served approximately 28,000 homes in Western Nassau County, including much of the area he now represents as a legislator.
While at the authority, he fought for cleaner, safer water at more affordable prices. He received much acclaim among area residents for his leadership on behalf of Jamaica Water customers. Mr. Ciotti conducted a study to determine the feasibility and eventual public takeover of Jamaica Water Supply Company, which in fact occurred.
He is a 1970 graduate of Valley Stream North High School. He also graduated with a degree in accounting from Hofstra University, with honors, in June 1974 and received his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern Law School, February, 1978.
Mr. Ciotti has been a resident of Valley Stream since 1962. He and his wife, Mary Jane, have been married for 29 years and have two sons, John Jr., and Matthew.
