Toback Announces Thermal Imaging Camera for Woodmere Fire Department One Step Closer to Approval

Nassau County Legislator Jeff Toback (D-Oceanside) announced today an inter-municipal agreement between the Woodmere Fire Department and Nassau County covering the purchase of a thermal imaging camera.

Thermal imaging cameras are seen as a life-saving tool, as they can pinpoint in a building where a person may be trapped or unconscious, thereby eliminating certain risks faced by firefighters during a blaze. Toback will commit $12,000 from his Community Revitalization Funds to purchase the camera.

“These cameras protect not only the people who need rescuing, but the people doing the rescuing,” Toback said. “By locating where trouble spots are, firefighters can head directly to someone who needs assistance, drastically cutting down on the time spent locating them. This is a purchase that can and will save lives, and I encourage the full Legislature to approve it.”
