Legislator Toback Files Lawsuit Against Platinum Club
Nassau County Legislator Jeff Toback (D-Oceanside) joined by New York City Councilman James Sanders, Jr. held a press conference across the street from the Platinum Club today to announce that the Nassau County Attorney’s Office, on behalf of Nassau County residents, filed a lawsuit against the owner of the building and the company that operates the gentleman’s club in response to their refusal to take down a controversial billboard.
The lawsuit maintains that the rooftop billboard, which features a young woman wearing practically nothing, violates public nuisance laws and constitutes a public display of offensive sexual material. The Platinum Club is located at 248-58 Rockaway Blvd. in Rosedale on the Queens/Nassau border, the main thoroughfare between the Five Towns and Brooklyn and Queens. Concerned residents from the Five Towns are strongly opposed to the billboard and have requested that Legislator Toback assist them in ensuring that it is taken down immediately.
“The content of this billboard is clearly in violation of the New York State Penal Law’s prohibition on public display of obscene material,” Legislator Toback said. “We have tried over the past several weeks to have the owner take it down to no avail. We trust that a Supreme Court judge will order the sign removed.”
