Legislator Bosworth Commends 6th Precinct Top Cops
Sixth Precinct Police Officers Peter Larocco and Joseph Franolich were honored by the Nassau County Legislature as April’s Top Cops. The police officers were cited for their bravery and service beyond the call of duty when they responded to a report of a fire at a Great Neck Plaza home. Faced with a fully engulfed structure, the officers ran to an open garage and grabbed a ladder to save the family trapped on the second floor. The ladder fell short of the window. Undaunted, Officer Larocco asked the father to drop an 8 month old baby into his arms. Officer Larocco climbed down the ladder with the infant while Officer Franolich stayed at the top of the ladder to reassure the other members of the family and guide them out of the window and onto the ladder. Six people were rescued that night, thanks to the heroic efforts of these two police officers. Each officer was treated at the Nassau University Medical Center for smoke inhalation.
Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) commented, “We are so grateful to all our emergency responders for their courage and commitment to keeping the residents of the 10th Legislative District safe and out of harm’s way. The bravery demonstrated by Officer Larocco and Officer Franolich on this occasion was another example of the dedication to duty we see so often in the officers of the Sixth Precinct.
