Legislator Bosworth Congratulates Great Neck Intel Semi-Finalists
Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth (D-Great Neck) congratulated three Great Neck teenagers who are semi-finalists in the 2009 Intel Science Talent Search. She presented Sari Levy, from Great Neck North High School (accompanied by her mentor Mr. Alan Schorn) and Daniel Piroozian, from North Shore Hebrew Academy High School (accompanied by his mentor Dr. Harris Nierman) with a County Citation at a recent meeting of the Nassau County Legislature. Jonathan Cho, from Great Neck South High School, also a semi-finalist, was unable to attend the meeting.
Participating in the Intel Science Search requires a great deal of effort. Students submit a lengthy written report on an independent science-research project and are then judged by noted scientists from a variety of disciplines on their research, scientific originality, and creative thinking.
The teenagers completed the following projects: Sari Levy, “Investigating Confocal Ultrasound Stimulation as an Osteogenic Stimulus: A Novel Physical Modality for Accelerating Fracture Healing and Bone Regeneration;” Daniel Piroozian, “Seniors See the Light: Benefits of Xenon Lighting on Nighttime Driving;” and Jonathan Cho, “Differential Expression of Liver-specific miRNA Genes in Fibrotic and Normal Liver Tissues.”
