Legislator Wink Honors Alzheimer's Patients and TheirCaregivers
Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn) attended the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America National Commemorative Candle Lighting Ceremony held in Manhasset’s Mary Jane Davies Park recently. The ceremony, hosted by North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross and co-organized by Manhasset Rotarian Ted Mageau, was designed to bring heightened awareness to the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. “Candles of Care” were lit in tribute to individuals with the disease or related illnesses and to honor their families and caregivers.
Legislator Wink said, “I was the proud sponsor of the County's Silver Alert law which facilitates the rapid dissemination of information regarding missing seniors and others with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other cognitive disorders. This ceremony serves as a reminder that the more than 25,000 people in Nassau afflicted with Alzheimer’s or any related condition could be members of our own families. They need our help. They need our caring. And most of all they have earned our love and respect.”
