Wink Wins Re-election in 11th Legislative District

Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn) won re-election to the 11th Legislative District seat on Tuesday, November 6 by more than 2,500 votes.

The win, which reflected strong support for the Democratic majority’s efforts over the past six years to maintain the county’s financial health and steer it towards a steady future, maintained a 10-9 edge for the Democrats in the legislature and ensured the county executive’s agenda would continue to move forward.

“I am humbled by the continued trust and support of my constituents,” Legislator Wink said.  “I will continue to work hard for my district and to never lose sight of our local issues.”

The district covers parts of Albertson, Baxter Estates, East Hills, Flower Hill, Garden City Park, Glenwood Landing, Herricks, Manorhaven, Plandome Manor, Port Washington, Port Washington North, Roslyn, Roslyn Estates, Roslyn Harbor, Roslyn Heights, and Searingtown. There are 14,712 registered Republicans, 18,117 registered Democrats, and 13,064 voters in minor parties or who are unaffiliated.

During less than a year in office, Legislator Wink has established himself as a tireless advocate for his constituents. He sponsored Alec’s Law, to protect our children against accidental automobile backovers, as well as sponsoring legislation that would prohibit the sale of DXM, an addictive cough suppressant often abused by teenagers, to minors. He was also the driving force behind much-needed road improvements on Roslyn Road and near the Roslyn LIRR station.

Looking to the future, Legislator Wink and his Majority colleagues will be supporting the County Executive’s initiative to address the consolidation of special taxing districts in an effort to lower property taxes.

“I will continue to fight for my district’s taxpayers to reduce the burden of our property taxes through more sensible, efficient government,” said Legislator Wink.

A graduate of Uniondale public schools, Wink received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Hofstra University and a JD from St. John’s University Law School. Wink specializes in real estate law and litigation, and is an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Hofstra, with a concentration in American political systems. He resides in Roslyn with his wife, Stacey, and daughter, Jennifer.
