Historical Marker Dedicated to Killian Hotel
The Historical Society of the Massapequas dedicated a new historical marker identifying the site of the Killian Hotel, at the corner of Hicksville and Killian Roads, one block south of Sunrise Highway near the Post Office. The Killian Hotel was one of several hotels in the area catering to sportsmen from the area and from as far away as Maine and Texas. Vice President Chester A. Arthur, a guest of the hotel, was known to fish the nearby ponds and streams. The Killian Hotel operated from 1868 to 1905. Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt, himself a Trustee of the Historical Society, joined with other public officials to dedicate the marker.
Shown in photo, left to right, are: John Giovenco; Samantha Gallagher; Wilma Diehl; Linda Hanna; Donna Cohen; Lillian Bryson; Paul Kicherer; Gene Bryson; Legislator Schmitt; Joe DeMarco; George Kirschman; Assemblyman Joe Saladino; John O’Brien and Society President Bill Colfer.
