Leg Mejias Congratulates Girl Scout Lego League

Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-Farmingdale) congratulated members, of “The Icebreakers,” a group of Girl Scouts that included Maggie Miller of Farmingdale at a recent meeting of the Nassau County Legislature. The girls competed in the First Lego League, a global program created to get kids excited about science and technology. Geared for ages 9 to 14, the program utilizes theme-based challenges to engage kids in research, problem solving, and engineering.

“The Icebreakers” competed against 49 other Long Island teams achieving the Champions Award, which is given to the team with the best overall score in the following categories: teamwork, robot performance, technical abilities and presentation of a research project. They will be competing with their project, “Climate Change” in Atlanta representing Long Island in the First Lego League World Festival.

Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-Farmingdale), left, and Legislator Denenberg presented County Citations to members of "The Icebreakers," Girl Scouts who won first place in the First Lego League Competition. Those who were congratulated were, from left, Heather Murray, Erin Harding, Maggie Miller, of Farmingdale, Caeley Looney, Tara Campbell-Hicks, and Brianna Kitchener. The girls, who were joined by their coach Steve Kitchener and Girl Scout leader Diane Kitchener, will represent Long Island in Lego Leagues first competition in Atlanta. The winning project was "Climate Change,"
