Legislator Yatauro Sponsors STEP It Up Workshop

Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) brought our community’s emergency management specialists to Glen Cove recently for an informative presentation entitled “Strengthening Our Training on Emergency Preparedness (STEP).

Legislator Yatauro said, “I was proud to bring this important workshop to the residents of several North Shore communities. Leading experts discussed the rules concerning mandatory evacuation, potential dangers caused by excessive wind and the importance of caring for elderly and homebound residents as well as the loved ones of our first responders. Information H1N1 flu and how to safeguard against mosquito breeding and West Nile Virus was included. Hopefully this educational workshop will help us avoid a major disaster.”

Participants included Nassau County Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Management Greg Caronia, Frank Cassano of the Red Cross, members of the CERT team, representatives of the Nassau County Dept. of Health, the Pet Safe Coalition and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
