Yatauro Named Presiding Officer for the Legislature's Seventh Term

Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove), after overwhelmingly winning re-election to the Legislature, will be named Presiding Officer for the Legislative term beginning January 1, 2008.

“I am humbled by the support of the voters of my district and by my colleagues in the Legislative majority for their faith in me,” Yatauro said. “As presiding officer, I will continue to fight against high taxes, work to improve the quality of life of our residents, and ensure that Nassau County remains one of the nation’s best places to live and work.”

Yatauro was unanimously supported by her fellow majority lawmakers after current Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) announced she would be stepping down after eight years as the majority leader.

“Diane is the perfect person to assume leadership for the Legislative majority,” Jacobs said. “She is a tireless advocate for not only her own district, but for the entire County, and will continue to do great things for the residents of Nassau County.”

Legislator Yatauro is a former Second Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank and is currently on the advisory council for the North Shore Boys and Girls Club and an advisor for the Junior League. Legislator Yatauro is a former Vice President of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys and Girls Club where she spearheaded fundraising efforts to acquire a new building for the club’s activities, and was a board member of Raynham Hall. In addition, she is a former board member with Portledge School and a religion teacher at St. Rocco’s Catholic Church in Glen Cove.
