Legislator Diane Yatauro Presents County Honors to Carol Waldman

Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove) recently presented Carol Waldman, the director of the Glen Cove Senior Center, with this year’s Nassau County Woman Trailblazer Award.

Legislator Yatauro said, “Carol is the embodiment of compassion and commitment to the elderly of our community. She deeply believes that people have the potential to thrive throughout their later years. I am so proud of Carol and all her achievements for our senior citizens.”

At the age of 18, carol supervised the elderly blind through summer programs and at 26, taught English to aging immigrants. For almost two decades, Carol has coordinated programs and developed services at the Glen Cove Senior Center helping to make it one of the largest and most successful in Nassau County. Two of her many special achievements include the creation of a Lifelong Learning Center and the establishment of the Glen Cove SAGE Foundation whose mission is to assist the Senior Center in maintaining and enhancing programs and services to meet the physical, social and psychological needs of area residents 60 years of age and older. In addition to serving as an active member of the Coalition for Senior Service Providers, she proudly serves on the Gerontology Board at Hofstra University and the Executive Board of the Melillo Center for Mental Health.

Carol Waldman is loved by all the seniors who come to the Glen Cove Senior Center…indeed; she is loved by the entire community. Congratulations, Carol Waldman.
