Swimmers for A Cause Swim-A-Cross

Swimmers in the 20th annual American Red Cross in Nassau County “Swim-A-Cross” hit the water at Centre Island Beach on Aug. 8

to raise funds for the organization’s local chapter. Many Long Islanders are often surprised to learn that there is a Red Cross Chapter

in Nassau County. Over the past two years alone, the Nassau Red Cross has provided nearly $250,000 of direct aid to almost

1,500 Nassau County residents in the form of food, clothing and temporary shelter. The Swim-A-Cross fundraiser was and idea

nurtured 20 years ago by Justice Ute Lally and Joan Imhof. The two founders were honored at this year’s event. Pictured at

Centre Island Beach in Bayville is: participant and former Bayville Village trustee David Gugerty; Nassau County Legislator

Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove); Joan Imhof; Justice Ute Lally; Frank Cassano, Nassau County Red Cross Executive Director.
