Legislator Yatauro Commends Teen Volunteers in Glen Cove Library’s “Any Soldier Program"

“What a thrill it was for me to join the American Legion in recognizing these teenagers’ dedication,” said Nassau County Legislator Diane Yatauro (D-Glen Cove). She joined the Glen Cove American Legion Post 76 in commending a group of dedicated Glen Cove teenagers at a recent ceremony held in the Glen Cove Public Library. “These young people, our next adult generation, spent hours collecting, packing and shipping special gifts for our fighting men and women abroad. It made me proud to honor their community spirit. Our future appears to be in safe hands.”

The teenagers—almost 100 of them during the past three years—gave freely of their time to the AnySoldier program which is designed to help in the shipment of gifts to American men and women in uniform serving in harm’s way. Each teenager received a citation from the American Legion Post 76 whose members praised them for giving up their Saturday mornings to benefit our nation’s soldiers. Post 76 presented Anna Dunlop, the Glen Cove Library’s Young Adult Program Director, with a gift and citation in recognition of her tireless efforts in coordinating the AnySoldier Program. The veterans of Glen Cove’s American Legion Post 76 were especially moved by the commitment and patriotism exhibited by the teenagers.
