Leg Denenberg Funds Recycling Program in Wantagh's Mandalay School

The students of Mandalay Bay Elementary School in Wantagh have begun a recycling program in their building thanks to the environmentally aware third, fourth and fifth graders of the student council, their advisor Georgette Walpole, the PTA and Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick). Legislator Denenberg, Chairman of the County Legislature’s Planning, Development and Environment Committee, personally reimbursed the PTA for the purchase of two, 96-gallon recycling containers.

Leg Denenberg said, “When I visited the school last year, the students told me they didn’t have a recycling program. The fact that these children cared about the environment at such a young age impressed me. I am so proud of our students for stepping up and implementing this program together with the school and the PTA. It is really my honor to assist by paying for the recycling containers.”

Each classroom and the staff offices will have a labeled garbage pail to be used for paper, and a separate one for non-recyclable trash. The Student Council members will assist students in sorting items for recycling and proper disposal.
