Legislator Scannell Honors Exemplary Baldwin Students

Nassau County Legislator Joseph Scannell (D-Baldwin) attended this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. “Beacon of Hope” Program at the Baldwin Senior High School sponsored by the Concerned Parents of Baldwin and the Baldwin Union Free School District. During the program Catherine Louise Guerrier, a student in Baldwin Senior High School, and Xiana Flowers, a student in Baldwin Middle School,  received the 2010 Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian award for earning an exemplary portfolio in academic achievement, community service and school activities. The Brookside Elementary School, represented by its Principal, Ms. Ivy Sherman, received an award in acknowledgement for earning the prestigious national status as a 2009 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

Legislator Scannell said, “I would like to congratulate Catherine and Xiana on their outstanding academic accomplishments and dedication to their community. I am so proud of them and of the teachers, staff and students in the Brookside Elementary School who brought Blue Ribbon status to the Baldwin community. Well done!”
