Scannell Demands Answers on Precinct Closings

Nassau County Legislator Joe Scannell (D- Baldwin) and his colleagues, Legislator Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead), Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn) and Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) held a press conference yesterday at Nassau County's First Police Precinct in Baldwin, to demand that the Mangano administration reveal which two police Precincts County Executive Mangano plans to close. The closing of two police precincts is in the County Executive’s proposed 2012 budget.

Legislator Scannell, ranking member of the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee, said, "Our residents have the right to know exactly which precincts the administration plans to close before the budget is adopted. Our residents must know that the police precinct currently serving their neighborhood is in danger of being shut down in the next few months. Any proposal that closes two precincts is outrageous and unacceptable. This administration cannot balance its books at the expense of public safety.”

The legislators were joined by local residents who are deeply troubled at the prospect of losing their community’s precinct and specialized police services.
