Legislator Toback Adds Funds to Dredging of Willow Pond

Additional $60,000 in Community Revitalization funds secured

Nassau County Legislator Jeff Toback (D-Oceanside) spoke to Hewlett Harbor Mayor Mark Weiss and Deputy Mayor Len Oppenheimer at Willow Pond recently regarding the plans to restore the pond. Legislator Toback secured an additional $60,000 in funding through the Community Revitalization Program for the Willow Pond Dredging project. The Town of Hempstead has committed $100,000 towards the completion of the project. Willow Pond discharges into Macy channel.

The restoration of Willow Pond, included in the 2004 and 2006 Environmental Bond Acts, includes plans for storm water treatment outside the pond’s boundary, and dredging, or removal of accumulated sediment. This will refurbish the pond’s aquatic habitat and improve its flow of water. The storm water treatment portion of this bond project will include matching county capital funds.

“The additional funds will help restore Willow Pond to keep the aquatic habitat vital and continue to provide a pristine and tranquil waterway for everyone to enjoy,” Legislator Toback said.
