Toback secures funds for fitness course in Oceanside School District

Nassau County Legislator Jeffrey Toback (D-Oceanside) today announced that he has secured $14,000 in funds toward the purchase and construction of “fitness par courses” or fitness trails adjacent to various schools throughout the Oceanside school district.

Legislator Toback, Chair of the Health and Social Services Committee, secured the funds through his Community Revitalization Project Funding.

“Encouraging a healthy lifestyle and providing the resources for it will go a long way in promoting a lifestyle that will hopefully stay with them for the rest of their lives.” Legislator Toback said.

“I would like to thank Legislator Toback for his efforts in securing these funds,” said Superintendent of Oceanside Public Schools Dr. Herb Brown. “I know that our students and the community at large will benefit from our new fitness courses.”

The school district, with its recently adopted wellness policy designed to enhance the health and overall wellness of students, will construct the fitness trails around the perimeter of the tracks of Oceanside High and Middle schools as well as some of the elementary schools. Also available to the community, the trails will be designed to facilitate an exercise routine to include stretching and resistance training.
