Legislator Wink Honors Peer Mediation Graduates

Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn) presented citations to twenty three Roslyn students for their outstanding efforts towards developing techniques to reduce their own conflicts and tension within their families and their community.

The awards ceremony held recently at the Hector Gayle Roslyn Community Center celebrated young people who are learning skills to have a positive impact in their community. Legislator Wayne Wink presented awards to participants for their commitment and dedication to making a difference within the community.

The workshops were sponsored by The Concerned Citizen’s for Roslyn Youth a community based not for profit group in collaboration with the Education and Assistance Corporation’s Mediation Alternative Project.

While other young people were engaged in recreational activities this summer, these dedicated Roslyn students participated in sixteen hours of training that taught them a process of communication and problem solving that will enable them to help their peers reach settlements to disputes without confrontation and violence. These recipients will apply these newly acquired pro-social life-long skills to help create a safer environment for their siblings, their friends and themselves.
