Legislator Mejias Hosts Town Hall Meeting
to Help Sagging Economy
“MEET ME AT THE MALL!”
Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-Farmingdale) hosted the first ever Town Hall Meeting in the county at a local mall. The unique venue afforded him the opportunity to not only provide a greater number of residents with vital public safety information but also served as an innovative way to stimulate the sagging economy. Forgoing the typical meeting areas like libraries and civic centers, Legislator Mejias invited Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Nassau County Police, and Westfield Sunrise Mall to speak to residents in a more casual setting. The Town Hall Meeting began at 5:30 p.m., earlier than usual to afford participants the opportunity to later shop.
“During these trying economic times, we need to think outside the box and do all we can to help local retail stores and increase our tax revenue,” Legislator Mejias said. “I am grateful to District Attorney Rice for joining me in this initiative.”
Residents enjoyed meeting their local elected representatives, including Legislator Mejias, and DA Rice taking with them valuable public safety information.
“I applaud Legislator Mejias’ efforts to keep the residents of this district ‘in the know’ about ways they can keep themselves and their families’ safe,” DA Rice said. “By making this valuable information so accessible, residents are kept in the loop about crime in their neighborhood and ways they can help make our neighborhoods safer places. Information is power and I will continue to work with Legislator Mejias to get as much information and education as possible to his district’s residents.”
