America's Boating Course to be Offered at Garvies Point Museum on March 1 and 8

The “America’s Boating Course” will be offered to the general public age 14 and above at Garvies Point Museum and Preserve on two successive Saturdays, March 1 and 8, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi.

Taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 12-3, this comprehensive eight-hour course is offered in two sessions from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provides participants with all the requirements for operating a jet ski in New York State, upon successful completion of the final exam. It also provides basic boating safety skills for power- and sail-boaters alike.

The course costs $65, which includes a textbook and CD. Registration and payment is required by the date of the class. Checks should be made out to “U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 12-3,” and can be mailed to Garvies Point Museum, 50 Barry Drive, Glen Cove, N.Y. 11542.

The Garvies Point Museum and beautiful adjoining 62-acre preserve are located along Hempstead Harbor at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum offers a regular schedule of films and other programming related to Native American life and geology. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are $2 for adults and $1 for children 4-14 years of age. For additional information, call 516-571-8010.
