Old Bethpage Village Hosts 1,500 Prize Rabbits at Annual Show on April 12

Old Bethpage Village Restoration (OBVR) will be hopping with activity on Saturday, April 12, as 1,500 prize rabbits compete at the annual Long Island Rabbit Breeders Association Rabbit Show, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. Among the breeds on display are Holland Lops, Belgian Hares, New Zealands and English Angoras.

The program runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 8,000-square-foot Exhibition Hall of the Long Island Fairgrounds, an accurate reproduction of the original exhibit hall built at the Queens County Agricultural Society Fairgrounds in Mineola in 1866.

The Long Island Rabbit Breeders Association is based in Yaphank in Suffolk County and works to “promote, encourage and develop the rabbit industry.” The group has more than 100 members throughout the metropolitan area. For more information about the group, visit www.lirba.net.
