Garvies Point Museum Celebrates First Day of Summer on June 21 with "Eco-Craft” Program
The Garvies Point Museum and Preserve will celebrate the start of summer with an “eco-craft” program on Saturday, June 21, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi.
As part of the program, the museum’s staff will demonstrate how new paper is made from old by turning shredded scrap paper, junk mail and dried flowers into beautiful hand-made paper suitable for framing as well as writing.
In addition, the museum will show a 28-minute film, “The History of the Earth: Over the Eons,” at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Using a mix of beautiful photography and animation, the film provides an outline of the geological and biological history of the Earth, from the Precambrian era to the present.
The Garvies Point Museum and beautiful adjoining 62-acre preserve are located along Hempstead Harbor at 50 Barry Drive in Glen Cove. Admission to the museum is $3 for adults and $2 for children 5 to 12 (those under four years of age are admitted free). Museum hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tues. - Sun.
