Parks Department Presents Full Schedule of Summer Concerts and Movies at Eisenhower Park

The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park will host a comprehensive schedule of 47 free summer concerts, shows and films, announced Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi. Highlights of the summer schedule include:
- The Canon International Music Nights Concert Series, made possible through a generous grant from Canon USA and featuring 19 evenings of ethnic music and dance.
- A Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, June 28, courtesy of Commerce Bank, whch will present Grucci fireworks and America’s Tribute Band, “Bruce in the U.S.A.”
- Movies will be shown on the giant screen every Thursday evening throughout July and August, with a variety of family favorites and classics, from “Bee Movie” to “Grease.”
- The North Shore Pops (June 26), Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops (July 5), the Senior Pops Orchestra (July 11), and the Long Island Philharmonic (August 15) will once again “fill the hill” with popular favorites and masterpieces. Music for the younger set will include Hannah Montana/Hilary Duff Tributes on July 18 and the Ditty Doodle Imagination Celebration on August 9.
- A mid-summer favorite, Salute to Veterans, will be presented on August 2, featuring the Charisma Boys, Randy & the Rainbows and Risky Business, and the USO Entertainment Troupe. On August 30, “Long Island Rocks for Freedom” will provide a salute to currently deployed armed forces (the rock concert will also be broadcast to troops in Iraq).
- In commemoration of Lakeside Theatre’s namesake, the fourth annual Harry Chapin Tribute will be presented on August 27.
- The finals of the popular local Reach for the Stars Teen Talent Search will take place on August 8, with the competition featuring vocalists.
All Lakeside Theatre programs are free and begin at 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted, while movies begin at dusk. There is no formal seating at Lakeside Theatre, so concert-goers should bring chairs and blankets. If weather appears threatening on the day of a program, call 516-572-0355 after 7 p.m. to confirm.
Eisenhower Park, operated by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, is located in East Meadow with entrances on Merrick Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike.
