Nassau County Teams with "RunSmart" to Provide Training Program

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announces that the County is teaming up with the RunSmart training program to help residents prepare for the 2011 Long Island Marathon: Festival of Races event and more generally enjoy a healthful lifestyle.

RunSmart is a special training program designed to prepare runners considering participation in the Long Island Marathon, Half-Marathon or 10K race, which together comprise the Festival of Races. The program is being conducted by the Greater Long Island Running Club in conjunction with the office of County Executive Mangano and the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, which helps organize and run the Festival of Races.

The program, which has a $20 fee, begins the morning of January 22 at the Bethpage State Park picnic area and includes a total of 14 training sessions held Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. In addition to running technique, training also addresses such issues as footwear, apparel, nutrition, hydration and injury prevention.

“Our partnership with RunSmart provides interested residents with an effective training program for a nominal fee,” says Mangano.
