Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announces that the County will sponsor two free batting clinics at the newly renovated batting cage at Eisenhower Park on May 12 and May 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The clinics will be led by Michael Caulfield, the first assistant coach at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury; operator of the Butch Caulfield Hitting Academy in Bethpage; and hitting coordinator for the popular youth baseball programs at the New York Baseball Academy.
“I am happy to provide these free clinics for our youngsters and their families,” says County Executive Ed Mangano. “Michael Caulfield is an outstanding instructor, and we are thrilled to be working with him on this and other baseball initiatives for the benefit of the public.”
As part of Mangano’s comprehensive parks improvement initiative, during the offseason, the County installed entirely new pitching machines at the batting cage, as well as new netting and a new pulley system to raise and lower netting during inclement weather.
The batting cage includes nine individual stalls with three different speeds for baseball or softball. For baseball, speeds range from 40-45 mph, 60-65 mph and 80-85 mph. Since the system is “self-feeding” and the balls are collected automatically, patrons don’t need to waste time and energy collecting them and filling boxes or feeding a pitching machine, as is the case at some indoor facilities. The fee for the cage is $3 for 25 pitches for residents and $5 for non-residents.
The batting cage is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours during the summer. For more information, call 572-0407.
