CONGREGATE SHARED HOUSING

Harvest Houses provide an opportunity for eight well elderly persons to live together as family. The homes offer companionship as well as privacy, supportive services in a home-like living arrangement, and a level of care which assures maximum independence and self-direction. The goal is to help improve the quality of life for the older person by encouraging each individual to continue being independent while assuming a mutual responsibility.

FAMILY-TYPE HOMES FOR ADULTS

This service is provided for adults who, for health or social reasons, can no longer live alone or with their families, but do not require placement in a nursing home. To help these adults remain in the community, the Department of Social Services recruits sponsors who are able to provide family-type living arrangements in their homes, 24-hour care, and supervision. Placement is supervised by the Department of Social Services to insure proper care. Contact:

HOME SHARE/LONG ISLAND

The program links senior homeowners who have extra room in their homes with adults who need an affordable place to live. Personal interviews, background checks, and reference investigations are provided. Possible matches are offered, but the decision is the homeowner’s. Services are fee based.
