PUBLIC HEALTH AND VISITING NURSE SERVICES

Written doctor’s orders are required to receive nursing services and physical, speech or occupational therapy on a part-time intermittent basis under Medicare. Medicare only pays if the patient is homebound and is acutely ill. Medicare does not pay for care in chronic illness. If approved by Medicare, limited part-time services of a home health aide may also be provided if skilled nursing and/or therapy services are also ordered by the doctor. Many of these services are also covered by Medicaid. There is a sliding scale fee schedule for patients not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or other third party payment.
