Volunteer Programs

FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM

Income-eligible senior citizens 60 years and older serve as Foster Grandparents to children with special needs in schools, day care centers, group homes, recreation and tutorial programs. Volunteers receive a non-taxable stipend, assistance with transportation and lunch. To apply, contact:

RSVP – RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Men and women, 55 years of age and over, can make a meaningful contribution by volunteering their services on a regular basis. Community agencies benefit and volunteers derive great personal satisfaction. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program – RSVP – recruits and arranges for training and placement in volunteer assignments in non-profit agencies throughout Nassau County. For information, contact:

SCORE – SERVICE CORPS OF RETIRED EXECUTIVES

SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs administers an employment program which enables a limited number of economically disadvantaged persons, age 55 or older, to work 20 hours per week in public or private non-profit agencies. These programs provide on-the-job training and work experience. For further information:

JOB PLACEMENT SERVICE

The Department offers a free employment service for Nassau County residents age 55 and over and to employers seeking qualified workers. Persons seeking employment are assisted with resume preparation, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. No fees. Potential employees and employers may contact:
