The Tax Records department of the Treasurer's Office maintains all records of, and collects payments on delinquent Nassau County Property Taxes. For the Towns of Hempstead, North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, this includes both the full General Taxes and School Taxes. The City of Glen Cove handles their own School Tax delinquencies, so only delinquent General Taxes are paid with the Treasurer. General and School delinquent taxes are also collected for the City of Long Beach, however only the County Portion of the General Tax.
General Taxes become delinquent after the last day of February (1st half) and the last day of August (2nd half); School Taxes become delinquent after the last day of November (1st half) and the last day of May (2nd half). There are no exceptions to this rule unless the last day falls on a holiday or weekend, in that case the last day will be the following business day. The General Taxes are collected by the Treasurer starting September 1st, and the School Taxes are collected by the Treasurer starting June 1st. At the end of each year the Treasurer holds a public auction to sell all unpaid delinquent taxes in the form of Tax Liens at Tax Lien Sale.
