East Meadow, NY - Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi ran the Long Island Run for the Warriors 5K race at Eisenhower Park in recognition of Veterans Day, on Sunday, November 9, 2008.

The Run for the Warriors is a 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run, sponsored by the Hope for the Warriors organization and is dedicated to the men and women wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq and their families. Hope for Warriors seeks to improve the quality of life for service members and their families, particularly with regard to the short and long-term care of the severely injured.

"This event is a celebration of our wounded veterans' strength and resolve and is a promise from us that their sacrifices will not be forgotten," said County Executive Suozzi. "Our returning soldiers gave their best and they deserve our best in return, and I am honored to pay tribute to their courage and dedication." Following the Run for the Warriors 5K, County Executive Suozzi delivered remarks at the annual United Veterans Organization Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Eisenhower Park.
