How is the quality of the air monitored?
The NYSDEC has ambient air monitoring systems located at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, and in Babylon and Riverhead located in Suffolk County. These sites monitor for carbon monoxide (CO), Ozone (O3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), inhalable particulates, lead, nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and the combination of NO and NO2 commonly referred to as NOX.
